Indigenous Engagement

River Health Conference 2010
The Indigenous people of the ACT have valuable and enduring insights into the land and its management. The ACT can use this knowledge to assist in long-term management of our natural resources. The relationship Indigenous people have with the land is fundamental to their existence and can provide insight into how the environment can be valued.
Engagement of Indigenous people in managing natural resources will assist their retention of traditional knowledge and provide social and economic opportunties for Indigenous communities.
The Council is concerned to promote activities that apply traditional knowledge to the management of the ACT's natural resources and increase Indigenous employment and participation in managing these resources.
Current Caring for our Country Regional Investments that are contributing to this objective are:
> Ngunnawal Warriors - Aboriginal Youth Connecting to Country
> Indigenous Natural Resource Management Facilitator
The Council has also been successful in winning Caring for our Country contestable funding for the Yurung Dhaura Caring for the Cotter Catchment Project
