ACT Weeds of National Significance Grants Program

The ACT Natural Resource Management (NRM) Council, with support from the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country (CFOC) program, is making $330,000 available for targeted control of Weeds of National Significance (WONS) within the ACT.

National Threatened Species Day

National Threatened Species Day (NTSD) is held on 7 September each year - commemorating the death of the last Tasmanian tiger at Hobart Zoo in 1936.

Events are held nationally throughout September - Biodiversity Month.

Australia's landscapes and species have been severely impacted by over 200 years of habitat loss and fragmentation. The impacts of land development, introduced plants and animals, grazing, salinity, changed fire regimes, pollution, and a changing climate all place additional pressure on our threatened species and their shrinking habitats.

National Landcare Conference

2012 Landcare Awards

The National Landcare Conference will be held at the Parkside Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour in Sydney from September 3rd to 5th in 2012.

The 2012 National Landcare Awards Gala Dinner will be held at the Darling Harbour Parkside Convention Centre Ballroom on September 4th.

Council Site Inspection Tour

On Friday 25 November 2011, the Council hosted a site tour of projects being undertaken with investment from the Australian Government's Caring for our Countriy intitiative.  The Council was accompanied by representatives of the Australian Government's Land and Coasts group and the ACT Government Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate.

Tools and Methods for Monitoring and Evaluating in NRM

Minister Ludwig announces appointments to Australian Landcare Council

Media Release 7 October 2010 Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, today announced the appointment of 16 new members to the Australian Landcare Council.

The Council is the Australian Government’s key advisory body on Landcare. “The Gillard Government is committed to supporting the Landcare community, which has been protecting and restoring Australia’s environment and improving the landscape for farmers for the past 20 years,”

Minister Ludwig said. “The appointment of 16 outstanding individuals with demonstrated commitment to their local environment and communities will strengthen Landcare.”

2010 National Landcare Forum

A national forum for landcare and related community groups will be held at the Adelaide Racecourse (also known as Allan Scott Park), Morphettville, Adelaide, South Australia 22-25 March 2010.

The theme of the 2010 forum is ‘Landcare celebrates – 20 years of achievements and future challenges’.

The key objectives of the forum are to:

Controlling Serrated Tussock now easier for southern ACT landholders

Controlling one of southern Australia’s worst introduced grassland weeds just got easier for Southern ACT landholders. With a $5000 grant provided by the Australian Government through the ACT Natural Resources Management Council, the Southern ACT Catchment Group has purchased a heavy-duty trailer for use in transporting spray equipment by landholders in the Lanyon bowl area in southern ACT, for serrated tussock control.
